How to build a social media scheduling workflow
Plan a reliable social media content calendar with approval stages, platform checks and publishing fallbacks.
A calendar works only if ideas become reviewed posts and reach the intended channels. Planning software should make the handoffs visible.
Design the calendar fields
Record the network, topic, owner, draft status, publication window and asset location. Avoid maintaining separate conflicting schedules for the same campaign.
Review before scheduling
Check image sizes, captions, links, accessibility and permissions. Some networks require extra steps for specific media formats or account types.
Handle failures explicitly
Decide who checks failed posts and how corrections are tracked. A small post-publication review prevents a missed upload from becoming a recurring problem.
Action checklist
- Assign an owner and clear status to every post
- Confirm network-specific requirements before approval
- Create a fallback for failed scheduled posts
